Proprietary Technology

Velvetrol® Anti-Water Hammer Technology

Every Gould solenoid valve features our patented internal piston pilot-operated Velvetrol® mechanism. The design follows a simple engineering principle: fast opening with controlled closing to help reduce water hammer. This inverse relationship provides inherent water hammer protection without external devices, additional cost, or field adjustment.

Unlike conventional ASCO solenoid valves that close at full electromagnetic speed — generating pressure spikes exceeding 6,600 PSI in larger sizes — Velvetrol® valves progressively restrict flow during closure, dissipating kinetic energy through the pilot chamber and reducing hydraulic shock at the source.

Customer Reviews

I’m happy to say that one of your valves has worked flawlessly in Hawaii for 25 years! Thank you for making such a reliable product.

- Clarice

The Gould Solenoid Valves website is a wealth of information, offering assistance in selecting and ordering a solenoid valve to meet many application needs. The selection guide is easy to use, resulting in multiple suggested offerings to select from. They offer instructional material on function, installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting in a video format as well, which I found to be more helpful than a written instruction & maintenance sheet.

- David M. Fallon, LLC; Professional Engineer (NJ), Retired ASCO Valve Product Development

It has been our privilege to distribute J.D. Gould solenoid valves since 1955. Throughout this extended period, Gould has always exhibited a “can-do” attitude to both rapid availability requirements and complex application challenges. The staff at Gould has always been very knowledgeable, courteous, and genuinely interested in addressing client needs. The long tenure of many of the Gould team members speaks very highly of the leadership’s integrity and business acumen. Gould understands that its service is only as good as its people and practices that belief through example each day.

I've been in the car wash industry for 20 years now and have dealt with a myriad of customer service personnel. I recently had the pleasure of dealing with one of your stellar performers, Rusty Chew. From the start, Rusty's attitude was "can-do!". If Rusty didn't have an answer, he was expeditious in finding one for me. Return calls were rapid, and information accurate and helpful. His entire demeanor was pleasant, professional, and displayed a genuine concern for helping find answers to my needs in a timely manner. I have no doubt he will continue to be a great asset and representation of your company and its commitment to excellent customer service. I look forward to working with your company again in the future!

- Tony Granet, Vehicle Cleaning Systems

I received everything today in good order. Thanks so much for keeping me informed. I wish all our suppliers would do as much. Thanks!

- Dave Heath, Brewing Operations Manager

We had purchased new ASCO valves and changed them out at the customer’s facility for them, and they are leaking again, according to our customer. I have used your solenoid valves on two or three of our designs so far, and if everything keeps going as smoothly as they are, we will continue to use them. Thanks for your assistance with this.

- James A. Demchak, Sr. Design Engineer

I finally got the chance to run back over to the elevator with the old valves on it. I’m extremely pleased to say that your 66-year-old valves are still working properly! After I adjusted them with proper closing force, the elevator is running smoothly and sliding into the landing zones perfectly. Thanks again for the info, it was a big help.
